About the Campaign
The Adopt an Apprentice Campaign was developed by NovaSkill in response to the growing number of apprentices out of trade as a result of the Global Financial Crisis in the first half of 2009. The campaign aimed to increase the profile of these apprentices to local businesses and communities via a targeted advertising campaign linked to a website which profiled the out of trade apprentices. The project was funded by NSW Department and Education and Training with eight Group Training organizations collaborating on the project. The program successfully reached its targets within the project period.
About Group Training
Group training organisations are generally community based, not for profit organisations dedicated to the skill development of people across industry sectors. In Australia they employer over 40,000 apprentices and trainees. The Group Training company is the employer of apprentices who are then leased out to ‘host employers’ at an hourly rate.
Group training saves the employer time and costs in administration and is a great option for employers in times of varying demand. Group Training organisations take the worry out of putting on an apprentice. If a business cannot provide enough work for an apprentice or trainee they can return them to the group training organisation who will then work diligently to find another host. The AdoptAnApprentice campaign is an example of the commitment group training organisations have to young Australian Apprentices and the skill development of Australia’s workforce.
